Ahoy, Matey … we hope you are planning to bring your family and friends along to the popular Silchester Fete and Dog Show. Eat, drink and be merry whilst helping to support our fund raising for the maintenance of St. Mary the Virgin, our beautiful village church.
A Great Day Out for all the family
Yo ho ho, me Hearties! Silchester Fete and Dog Show welcomes all ye fine ‘shiver me timbers’ Pirates and Princesses to our “Fancy Dress Parade” in the Main Arena this year. There will be prizes for all the youngsters who join in the Caribbean fun. We would kindly request you leave your parrots at home!
Our ever popular Dog show will be welcoming much loved pooches to compete for the much sought after Best in Show trophy. Our thanks to Lou and Keith Rawes for making it happen once more.
We will be setting up our Pirate’s Tavern on the day with great local Real Ale, Cider, Pimms and wine, for the grown ups. Hearty fayre for our Pirates will be available from our barbeque (burgers and hot dogs); or the hog roast; or more delicate fayre from our tantalising tea tent.
For 2018, we will have C&G Gymnastics showing off their amazing gymnastic routines. The Choirs, a wonderful mix of young and not so young with the fabulous Silchester School Choir and the Silchester Community Choir combined. We are promised some wonderful Pirating songs.
Have a cheeky flutter on your favourite ferret with racing from Hants and Berks Ferrets. And, kids can enjoy a fun filled afternoon learning circus skills with Furry Foot the Clown. Always a hit with the kids. We have The Bug Jungle joining us with a wonderful selection of jungle and woodland bugs and Furlock Holmes Animal Care will be bringing some small domestic pets for the children to watch and pet.
Country dancing by pupils from Silchester Primary School will open the Fete at midday and later on Dance to the Beat street dancers. The kids will have plenty to entertain them with an abundance of inflatable fun, coconut shy, kid’s games and races, meet the Donkeys; mini golf and much more……
There will be a great variety of food, craft and fund raising stalls including: books, cakes, plants produce, toys, tombola, white elephant and many more, along with a very generous raffle and a champagne draw. For the competitive amongst you there are our old favourites such as welly-wanging, egg-throwing and a chance to test your strength in the Tug-of-War.
